The Rebbe’s 110th birthday on Nissan 11 was marked in New York in the most public way: A parade of motor-homes covered with messages encouraging Jews to do a good deed.
“Don’t be alarmed by the column of “Mitzvah Tanks” filled with Orthodox Jews parading through Manhattan right now,” the Gothamist website told its readers.
“It is just Chabad Lubavitch’s annual Mitzvah Tank Parade meant to honor the birthday of the late Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. And it is just in time for Passover!”
A Mitzvah Tank, it explained, is a mobile “education and outreach center” that can also act as a mini-synagogue. “The tanks—all 60+ of them—make this parade every year (and catch us off guard every year).”
Leaving from Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway, the 60 tanks celebrated the Rebbe’s 60 years at the helm of Chabad-Lubavitch. They crossed the Manhattan Bridge and made their way up Sixth Avenue to 59th Street, at which point they turned back down Fifth Avenue and to 23rd Street.
“A Mitzvah Tank Parade is very appropriate as it symbolizes the Rebbe’s work of ‘outreach’ as the Mitzvah Tanks do not wait for the people to come to them, they come to the people,” said Rabbi Shmuel Butman, Director of Lubavitch Youth Organization and Chairman of the Mitzvah Tanks Project.
“It is a wonderful way of expressing gratitude to the Rebbe on his birthday,” he said about the many chassidim, bochurim and children who volunteered to man the tanks and give out Shmura Matzah for Pesach and invite people to seders.
According to the organizers Rabbi Mordy Hirsh and Rabbi Moshe Schmukler, the Tanks are equipped with hand-baked Shmura Matzah and people had the opportunity to don the Tefilin and pray, receive Shabbos candles and inspirational literature for Jews and non-Jews.

I wish you would have included some pictures of the other parade- the one that was so majestic because the moshiach flags were swaying in the breeze as the tanks lined up. There were children participating in that parade also. My son really wanted to go on and do mivtzoim. I’m sure the parents would’ve loved to see photos.
And is a red car neccessary?
