R’ Michoel Mogilevsky, an active member of the Chabad Lubavitch community in Toronto who survived Communism, has passed away on Sunday, 17 Av 5772.
He was 63 after battling a illness for a few months.
A thermodynamic engineer with a few patents written under his name, Mogilevsky was actually more known for his warm and enthusiastic chassidic heart and personality.
While still behind the Iron Curtain in Russia, the infamous KGB agents put immense pressure on his to join their espionage ring. Michoel bravely took up to them and said, “you cannot take my soul! You cannot buy my soul!”
Upon immigration to Canada’s Ontario providence, he raised a large and beautiful family with his wife. His yiras shamayim, love for the Rebbe and kindness was passed over to his children, some of which are serving as Shluchim.
He is survived by his wife Margalite Mogilevsky and his children Faigy Vidal – Houston, TX; Yisroel Mogilevsky – Crown Heights; Rafi Mogilevsky – Israel; Levi Mogilevsky, Avi Mogilevsky, Sara Mogilevsky, Rivka Mogilevsky, all of Toronto.
The levaya will take place Sunday, passing by 770 Chabad Gate in Toronto at 3:30 pm.
The family will be sitting Shiva in Toronto. Nichum aveilim, stories and memories can be sent to michoelmemories@gmail.com.
Dear Margalite and your whole family,
I am sending you healing thoughts…..there are no words….sending you only comfort.
Love, Julie Starr
May his mitzvah of Hachnasat Orchim welcome him into Shamayim to take a seat next to the Host, as he did for me when I was broken hearted and lonely, and he brought me joy and comfort.
May the family know no further sorrow!!

I live in Toronto, but only come home a few times a year… I can’t say I had any close relationship with Mr. Mogilevsky, but every time I saw him, he would ask me how am I doing, and what I am up to in life.
He had a sincere interest in how I was enjoying yeshiva etc. etc.
G-D only takes our best, and clearly he took a great, humble, and truthful chossid!
I don’t know what happens up there, but one thing for sure, Mr. Moglevsky is looking down, smiling and asking me how’s yeshiva coming along?
