History has a tendency to repeat itself – and that is what happened in Miami on Sunday.
A giant shell-covered Menorah that Chabad on Wheels placed on Lincoln Road, a tourists attraction for thousands, was desecrated.
Passersby were shocked to discover graffiti scribbled on the curb bordering the Chanukah display, WSVN reported.
Chabad Shliach Rabbi Zev Katz and the menorah’s designer Roger Abramson still remember a slightly similar incident 11 years ago.
In 2001, the branches of the menorah were broken off by vandals. The display dreidel, weighing about 2000 pounds, was tossed to the side.
“Vandalism is not going to bother us,” stated Rabbi Katz. “We’re going to keep on showing the meaning of Chanukah.”
Abramson remains positive as well, according to the TV station. He’s grateful he only has a few shells to replace, and Miami Beach police once again have stepped up.
The public noticed the vandal’s work days before the festival of lights is to begin.
“The first ones to see it were members of a Muslim family who said to me what a terrible thing that people have to have such hatred,” Abramson noted.
