More than 1000 community leaders in Miami attended the annual State of the County address presented by Miami-Dade Mayor, Mr. Carlos Alvarez at the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater on Tuesday, February 10th.
Among the guests in attendance were local mayors, police and fire chiefs, county commissioners, civic leaders, the heads of education departments, local board members, the heads of all major departments in Miami-Dade, and many prominent business people.
Yehuda Kaploun, Executive vice President of the Moses and Aaron Foundation and a respected community leader in North Miami Beach was chosen by Mayor Alvarez to deliver the Invocation at the opening of the ceremony, which included the Presenting of the Colors and a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
In the Invocation, Kaploun referred to the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and his work, taking particular note of the international network of community leaders established around the world for the betterment of society.
“The Rebbe spoke frequently on the need to develop harmony and unity in society,” said Kaploun, “and he urged that we not be impeded by the existence of divergent qualities amongst us; that these differences not be used as a source of competition and strife, but rather, that these differences be empowered and utilized as powerful resources, to be shared by all.”
Mayor Alvarez in his speech thanked Kaploun, and pledged to continue with diligence his efforts to assist all children in Miami Dade, with an emphasis on disadvantaged children and children with special needs.
