The city of Miami Beach gave a proclamation honoring the Rebbe’s birthday and declaring it as Education and Sharing day. During the ceremony that took place at City Hall, Commissioner Meiner spoke of the Rebbe’s concern for all mankind and in all places and the effect the Rebbes still has today. He also recommended the book he is currently reading titled The Rebbe.
Rabbi Yehuda Leib Schapiro, Rov of Bais Menachem and Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah of Greater Miami, was invited to give the invocation. Rabbi Schapiro spoke about the times the Rebbe said that Miami Beach specifically has a special opportunity to be the “pilot program” for the world to learn from as there are so many people from all over the world who visit the city. And they will take what they see in Miami Beach and bring it back with them to where they come from.
Special Delivery:
During the Yud Aleph Nisan farbrengen that followed in Miami Beach there was a special delivery from one of the City Officials. Miami Beach Commissioner Steve Meiner, hand delivered the signed proclamation from the City. Due to certain logistical changes the proclamation wasn’t able to be signed during the official presentation last week. However, Commissioner Meiner did not want the day to pass and thus made it his business to personally present the Proclamation to Rabbi Schapiro and the community.
All in attendance recognized and appreciated the Honor given on behalf of the Rebbe and the personal care given by Commissioner Meiner who made it his business to make sure it got done.
