In view of the recent Hamas attacks on homes and businesses in southern Israel, Central Chabad of Tel Aviv, headed by the Rebbe’s shliach to Tel Aviv-Yafo, has launched a worldwide Mezuzah campaign for those homes and businesses that have been destroyed as a result of these attacks.
In 1976, following the hijacking and saving of the hostages held in Uganda; and the subsequent attempt of the terrorists to perpetuate a vicious reprisal, the Rebbe wrote in a letter that “these events are an indication that Jews must, at the earliest possible, strengthen all aspects of their security and defenses —The present situation calls for the protection of every Jewish home. True protection is that which only Gd provides, as it is written, “G-d guards the city.” To ensure this Divine guardianship, the home has to be conducted in all aspects according to Gd’s will.
Our Sages declare explicitly that “the home is protected by the Mezuzah. Moreover, this protection embraces the members of the household also when they go out of the house, as it is written, ‘G-d will guard your going and your coming from now and forever.’ It is further explained in our holy sources that the Divine Name (Shin-Dalet-Yud) written on the back of the sacred Mezuzah parchment spells out the words, “Shomer Dalsos Yisroel — Guardian of Jewish Doors.”
Therefore, Chabad of Tel Aviv has begun distributing 6 high-quality Mezuzot to help those families whose businesses and homes have been destroyed to restore their life. So far, 325 Mezuzot have been distributed and the goal is to reach 1200 Mezuzot.
“The response has been overwhelming, said Rabbi Yitzchok Bir, coordinator of this project. “You can’t imagine the joy and happiness that this brings to these families when receiving the Mezuzot,” he said.
Rabbi Gerlitzky is requesting of every Chabad chosid to take part in this campaign. Donating to this campaign is the greatest display of solidarity with these families in Israel.
