The annual car Menorah Parade in Pittsburgh included close to 75 cars and vans and it culminated in a Grand Menorah Lighting in the new Schenley Plaza, near Downtown Pittsburgh. Police vehicles escorted the procession and ensured that everyone could safely travel through approximately 25 red lights.
Pedestrians and shoppers were very excited to see the Menorah Parade as they waved and called out, “Happy Chanukah” to the drivers.
Many in the crowd took pictures and videos on their cell phones as the parade passed by.
Over 250 people attended the Grand Menorah Lighting at Schenley Plaza, where the parade ended. Rabbi Yisroel Rosenfeld, Head Shliach of Western Pennsylvania and Dean of Yeshiva Schools lit the 18 ft. Menorah. Rabbi Yisroel Altein, of Chabad of Pittsburgh, inspired the crowd with his Chanukah message. He explained that every Jew is a light that has the power to brighten up the world and bring Moshiach by taking on another Mitzva.
Donuts and hot latkes were given out, live music was played by Moshe Pekkar, and a magician did a magic show for the children. Shliach Y. Eilfort performed an amazing fire show, and the entire crowd, including people who were passing by and attending this final portion of the program, enjoyed more music and a lot of dancing.
