A memorial will be held on President Street and Brooklyn Avenue in Crown Heights on Monday evening, the location where Yankel Rosenbaum, a 29-year-old Chassidic student from Australia was killed by a group of Black youths during the Crown Heights Riots against Jews in 1991.
33 years have passed since that bloody event occurred. While the neighborhood mostly lives in harmony, some in the Jewish community say that justice still hasn’t fully been served.
During the trial of his stabber, the lawyer of Lemrick Nelson, Jr. argued that the killing had nothing to do with Rosenbaum being Jewish. Nelson has served the full sentence and was released on June 2, 2004.
