The Chabad Jewish Center of Goodyear in Arizona held a Giant outdoor Menorah lighting on Sunday, the second night of Chanukah.
Over 200 people gathered at the Southwest Valley YMCA for the Chanukah event organized by Rabbi Berel and Chana Zaklikofsky.
Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord and the entire City Council came to show their support and enjoyed hot soup, latkes and doughnuts as children jumped on a moon bounce.
Other distinguished guests and community leaders attended, including Air Force Base Chaplain Lt. Col. Theadore Wilson and Vice Mayor Brian McAchran of nearby Buckeye, AZ.
“It was truly another historic display of Jewish pride in our community,” Rabbi Zaklikofsky said.
A day after the large turnout, the event was discussed at the City council meeting where members praised the unity that they have seen.
“I will give the rabbi credit,” commented the Mayor. “He is certainly bringing the community together.”
