As residents of Ocala in Florida were preparing for the end of their dry season of almost uninterrupted sunshine with very little rainfall, they got to witness an indoor rarity: A Jewish haircut.
Over 100 members of the local Jewish community gathered Sunday at the Chabad-Lubavitch Jewish Center of Marion County to celebrate a landmark occasion for 3 year-old Mendy Hecht.
The son of Shluchim Rabbi Yossi and Chanie Hecht, his “upsherin” haircutting ceremony marked his transition in life, when a boy his age becomes ready to be educated following the infant years.
People came from around Ocala and The Villages, each being able to cut a little bit of hair and wish Mazal Tov to the boy and his dedicated parents.
In attendance was the Mayor Kent Guinn, the boy’s grandfather Rabbi Benjy Stock of New York, Miami Shliach Rabbi Benji Korf, Gainsville Shliach Rabbi Berel Goldman and the Chabad Ocala shul’s president David Shapiro.
Looking forward to being back in Ocala with the wonderful
