Mark Levin, an active member of Central Mass Chabad in Massachusetts, passed away last week.
He 76.
Born and bred in Worcester, Mark was described as the heartbeat of the local Jewish community, having spent his entire life actively involved in all aspects.
For over two decades, Mark served as the Gabbai of our beloved Shul, Congregation Tifereth Israel Sons of Jacob-Lubavitz.
“His presence in our Shul was like a guiding light, and his booming voice, following a resounding clap on the Bimah, announcing “Kiddush,” still resonates in our ears and hearts,” said Rabbi Mendel Fogelman.
He added, “Mark’s dedication knew no bounds; even amidst freezing nights at Newton Square, he would ascend a rickety ladder (in the days before cherry pickers) to kindle the Grand Menorah, undeterred by hail, snow, or freezing rain.
“Mark embodied the essence of a ‘Chassidishe Beindel,’ a term deeply appreciated by my late father, Rabbi Hershel Fogelman. His warmth and sincerity touched everyone he encountered, greeting each person with a full heart and an infectious smile.
“His daily reading of the Hayom Yom were pure, but his favorite one, which he knew by heart, he would recite in Yiddish, “Vos Iz Grub un nidrik..”, “One who is lowly and crass does not sense his own crassness and loneliness. I will miss him greatly, as we all will.”
Only two short years ago, Mark and his wife relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, to be nearer to their children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Robin Levin, children Josh Levin, Adam Levin and Becky Dahan and grandchildren.
The levaya was held on Tuesday at Mount Olive Cemetery in Solon, Ohio.
