U.S. Senator Marco Rubio met with a small group of Jewish community leaders in Florida regarding a few issues that were important to him in his quest for reelection for Senate.
Among the handful of attendees was Rabbi Pinchas Taylor, Director of Adult Education for Chabad of Plantation and an author.
A main focus of the meeting was the Obama Administration’s nuclear deal with Iran, which was sweetened with illicit ransom payments and billions of dollars for the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism.
Senator Rubio introduced the No Ransom Payments Act, which would prohibit the federal government from paying ransom and stop payments to Iran from the U.S. Treasury Department’s Judgment Fund until Iran returns the ransom money it received and pays the American victims of Iranian terrorism what they are owed.
During the gathering, Rubio denounced the deal and denounced the growing wave of anti-Semitism both at home and abroad. The former Republican presidential contender also reaffirmed his commitment to Israel’s safety and had praise for the Jewish people as a whole.
In their discussion, Rabbi Taylor thanked the Senator for his history of strong support both to Jewish issues and overall conservative values.
Taylor suggested that the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiments were part of a larger issue of people drifting away from their faith communities and traditional conservative values.
“Senator Rubio seemed to agree with this premise and suggested that truly the best way to curtail this trend was by knowing the facts and openly denouncing the falsehoods,” Rabbi Taylor said.
Following the gathering and press conference, Rabbi Taylor had a few moments to speak one-on-one with Senator Rubio and his Deputy Chief of Staff.
He reiterated the importance of faith and faith groups in our society, and again thanked him for his adherence to traditional conservative values.
As a sign of appreciation, Rabbi Taylor presented Senator Rubio with a copy of his book “Pillars of Faith,” which methodically explains the foundations of Judaism in a clear and extremely thorough way.
Senator Rubio thanked Rabbi Taylor for the book, and for attending the meeting. They parted ways with Rabbi Taylor wishing him luck in fighting for the security of the US and Israel and his fight for traditional values, and Senator Rubio wishing him well in his speaking engagements and projects.
