A suspect is in police custody after attempting to assault multiple Jewish people in Crown Heights on Shabbos afternoon.
The first incident occurred near Empire Blvd and Albany Avenue at approximately 2:30PM when the perpetrator, described as an emotionally disturbed male, was attempting to gain entry into a vehicle waiting at a red light. He then vandalized the windshield wipers of a nearby Jewish-owned parked car.
Then, without any warning, the perpetrator charged towards 2 Bochurim and attempted to punch both of them in the face, while yelling anti-Semitic slurs.
The disturbing incident was observed by a Shmira member nearby, but the Bochurim refused to cooperate and left the location.
As the perpetrator approached Montgomery St, he once again charged at another Jewish man and attempted to punch him in the face, spat at him while yelling “dirty Jew” and other slurs of hate.
The perpetrator then picked up a rock and a stick and began to threaten other Jewish people in the area, including parents with small children and arriving Shmira members.
He was followed for approximately 4 blocks until the police arrived and placed him in their custody.
The perpetrator was transported to the psyche ward for evaluation while criminal charges were not filed.
“It is extremely important to cooperate with the police if you are a victim, Chas Vsholom,” a Shmira volunteer patrol member told COLlive. “Not filling out a report means it’s as if the incident never occurred. If the suspect gets away with it, there will be another victim. Do what’s right and make sure no-one else will get hurt.”
Always be aware of your surroundings. In case of any emergency, call Shmira 24/7 at 718-221-0303 and 911.
As a witness, I can tell you that the suspect was neither white, not holding bags.
He was swinging a large wooden stick and Shmira was attempting to disarm him.
As right around then I was walking with three kids and a let’s 40-45 year old white male, holding shopping bags, picked up a brick and threw it at the gate of Ben Shimon studios. Didn’t do any damage, but it was awfully close to the children.

The reason Boro Park is safer these days is because they have a Chinese neighborhood surrounding their borders. When it was others there was a lot of crime. Back in the 1970s until about 32 years ago when the Chinese flooded eight avenue and pushed out all the Hispanic,Palestinian and druggies, things got quiet. You need to either move in Chinese or white yuppies to secure crown heights. If you lived in a safari you would have to carry a gun… Read more »
