The Makova Rov Rabbi Shimon Lemberger paid a visit to the Ohel of the Rebbe at the Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens, New York on Tuesday.
Makova, a Chassidic dynasty originating from the city of Makó in Hungary, is centered today in Kiryat Ata, Israel, with communities in Bnei Brak, Ashdod, Elad and Boro Park, United States.
The Makova Rov arrived with a group of his chassidim to daven at the Ohel and place a ‘pan’ note of requests for blessings.
Before exiting the cemetery, he stopped by the kever of Rabbi Leibel Groner OBM, Mazkir of the Rebbe who passed away last year and whom he knew from his visits to 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights.
On the instruction of his father R’ Moshe Nosson Nota Lemberger OBM, the Makova Rov maintained a close connection with the Rebbe and attended several fabrengens in the years 5725, 5730 and 5735.
In a public talk, the Makova Rov once said “blessed is this generation that has a person such as the Rebbe of Lubavitch in it” adding that the Rebbe was one of a kind in this generation.
He marveled how the Rebbe restored the faith in Hashem by scores of people around the world and has been doing so when others didn’t understand his intentions.
“The whole world was screaming against him then and now those same people are active in this very area,” he said. “There’s no doubt that it’s all to his credit – he was the tzadik who established the yoke of teshuva in our generation.”
