Sunday marked a momentous occasion at Lubavitch of Bucks County in Pennsylvania, as the Adele Mermelstein Community Mikvah officially opened its doors to the public.
The event commenced with an extravagant brunch, setting the tone for a day filled with celebration. Following the brunch, attendees were treated to a series of inspirational remarks.
Leading the ceremony was Rabbi Aryeh Weinstein, whose vision and dedication served as the driving force behind the realization of the new Mikvah. Rabbi Weinstein shared the profound inspiration behind the Mikvah’s creation, attributing it to his wife Rosie, the teachings of the Rebbe, and a divine calling that could not be ignored. He recounted a poignant moment when the Rebbe spoke to another shliach, emphasizing the spiritual battles faced in the journey towards actualizing a Mikvah.
He was followed by Rabbi Yudy Shemtov, the executive director and senior Rabbi of Lubavitch of Bucks County, who commended Rabbi and Rosie Weinstein for their exceptional achievement. He emphasized the blessing that the new Mikvah brings to the community, serving as a conduit for individuals to deepen their connection with G-d. Rabbi Shemtov also highlighted the profound impact the Mikvah has in increasing awareness of G-d’s presence among its patrons.
Following Rabbi Shemtov’s address, Rabbi Avraham Shemtov, the Head Shliach of the Rebbe in the Delaware Valley and Chairman of the executive committee of Agudas Chasidei Chabad, read a letter from the Rebbe addressing the significance of a Mikvah’s grand opening. As he stepped away from the podium, he spontaneously broke into a lively nigun, stirring the souls of all those gathered.
Rabbi Yitzchok Bistritsky, CEO of Mikvah USA, whose organization extended a generous grant to the Mikvah, shared comments about the importance of embracing our heritage, especially in light of the challenges faced globally today.
The highlight of the ceremony came with the presentation of the main benefactors, Neil and Hedy Hoffman, who generously named the Mikvah in memory of Hedy’s mother, Adele Mermelstein. The Hoffmans were presented with a meticulously crafted scaled-to-size model of the Mikvah, revealing intricate interior details when the roof was lifted. The crowd gasped in awe as the model was unveiled, a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship poured into the project. Hedy Hoffman spoke passionately about the palpable presence of G-d felt within the Mikvah’s sacred walls, honoring her mother’s legacy as a Holocaust survivor.
Neil Hoffman echoed his wife’s sentiments, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to honor Hedy’s mother in such a meaningful way. Rabbi Weinstein extended his appreciation to Abe Jerome, the Mikvah designer, for bringing his vision to life and creating an atmosphere of spiritual transcendence within the Mikvah’s walls. He shared a poignant anecdote of a recent patron who was moved to tears by the profound sense of G-d’s presence experienced during her visit, likening it to the divine fire that descended upon King Solomon’s Temple.
The ceremony culminated in a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a guided tour of the newly opened Mikvah. The street was closed off as attendees eagerly made their way to experience the sacred space firsthand.
