A prayer service Sunday in a show of solidarity for the people of Haiti held in Brooklyn, New York, featured a Lubavitch speaker.
The march and prayer service was arranged by the non-profit ‘Life of the World’ in support of their orphanage in the earthquake-shattered Caribbean country.
Along with an Imam, Pastor, and Priest was Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, a Crown Heights activist.
“May He who blessed our fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob bless the people of Haiti,” Behrman said in his prayer for the estimated 75,000 people killed in the quake, and the other 250,000 injured.
“May You protect and deliver them from all trouble and distress and from all affliction and illness, and may they recover from this terrible tragedy that has befallen them,” he concluded.
A 6.1-magnitude aftershock, the most powerful since the Jan. 12 quake, hit Port-au-Prince at dawn on Wednesday.
Although there were no reports of new casualties yet, the quake sent fresh quivers to the already traumatized Haitians.
Life of the World is sending a delegation to Haiti this week to help the orphans cope in the aftermath.
“Thank G-d, all the kids and workers at the orphanage are okay except Bencia who has a broken arm and broken leg,” said Michael Fedele, founder of Life of the World.
The organization is asking the Crown Heights community to donate tents and sleeping bags.
“Maybe you know of a store owner that has extras laying in the stock room,” they wrote to COLlive.com.
