Friendship Circle of Los Angeles (FCLA) held their 11th Annual Walk4FriendshipLA on Sunday, October 25, 2020.
Despite the pandemic, they proved that ‘Friendship Knows No Distance’ as they welcomed children and young adults with special needs and their families to a Drive-in event at the American Jewish University parking lot in Bel Air.
The socially distanced fun-filled afternoon was the perfect event to celebrate the success of their annual fundraiser which raises money to keep their vital programs going in the local Los Angeles community.
Walk4FriendshipLA has raised $230,000 to date, with donations coming in on a daily basis to support their much-needed programs and services.
As families arrived in their cars, each was warmly greeted and given a goody bag with treats and surprises. A stilt walker and clowns along with energetic volunteers and music brought smiles to all in attendance.
Before the show began, Rabbi Michy Rav-Noy gave a shout out to the corporate sponsors and thanked them for their generosity. Next, there was an opportunity to invite the families to Walk around the stage and show their enthusiasm for FCLA.
DJ Yisorel led the charge with spirited songs, cheers, pompoms and big foam hands that said “We’re #1!” Children with special needs felt like #1 as they were applauded while en route to their cars.
The main attraction was an awesome BMX bike show featuring world class competitive bikers who stunned the crowd with all kinds of tricks. There were lots of oohs and awes as they went up the ramps and launched high into the air! They also gave out posters and autographed cards to the kids on their drive out.
Families said this event was an incredible way to spend the afternoon and that it was so easy too! Just pull in, park, and have the entire family enjoy!
FCLA looks forward to another year of bringing joy and friendship to those who feel especially neglected and lonely during these challenging times. Their dedicated teen volunteers are anxious to help them on their mission as they create even more programs to meet the needs of those that depend on them.
