This year for the first time in Yeka’s history, camp was held outside of Ukraine due to the ongoing war. Campers were dispersed all over Europe and Israel, not knowing what would be with their long first summer away from home.
However the Yeka counselors decided no matter what the current situation is there is a shlichus to be done building for our boys a home away from home a safe haven away from all the craziness and worries.
Located on a picturesque Lake Balaton in Hungary over 100 campers were able to experience 2 weeks packed with fun, inspiration, davening learning and activities. The magnificent grounds were very generously provided by Rabbi Mayer Stambler of the FJCU with direct access to a private beach area with swimming, paddle boarding and other water activities.
Upon arrival there were tears of joy with the campers being reunited with their counselors who have been in touch with the kids since our last camp in January. Director Mendel Borodkin said there has never been a more important time in Yeka’s history than now, giving our boys Yiddishkeit and inspiration. None of this would have been possible without the Rebbe’s vision and our dedicated team of staff from all over the world who came together to make it happen!
Pasha from Mariople said, “My village back home has pretty much been destroyed. It’s been such a relief to come to Yeka and be surrounded by such good energy and my American counselors.”
At the end of camp, Pasha received his very own pair of Teffilin after taking on a hachlata to lay tefillin every day.
For now the Yeka counselors rest up before round 2 starts with over 130 different Campers in Israel!
