Life experience is nothing new, the way how different situations make us aware of ourselves, the lessons it teaches, and the answers we get is something that is a part of life and we are accustomed to. Emunah is a topic that isn’t foreign. One of the basic fundamentals of the orthodox community is to believe – and within the community it is taken as a cultural assumption. This week join Coach Menachum and guest host Rabbi Bentzion Shafier as they discuss the new chapter of Emunah that the recent pandemic has taught us.
From his position as a Rov, Author and lecturer one of the major themes that Rabbi Shafier chooses to focus on is Emunah. As the internal and external world has been turned on its head we have been reminded of how little we really are in control – it is the living through humbling times that basic questions stir. The usual anchors – finances, job, success, minyanim, relationships, have left and people are feeling lost. The sudden global change has made people experience emotions that were different from what they were used to. Many people from the community felt the yearning of Moshiach in real ways that they never had before. The uncertainty and the obvious frailty of the human condition, made it easier to see how much we are in control and how much is simply beyond us.
Maturity is the better understanding of the same old information. Sometimes the words that we say do not change, but the way our understanding of them is richer. As adults we pray the same prayer for health that we did as children – verbatim, and yet what it meant to us before the coronavirus to now may have changed exponentially. Join Coach Menachum and Rabbi Shafier as they discuss what lessons Covid-19 taught us about Emunah and how we can internalize its message and keep it for the future.
