Montreal Judges, including Quebec Superior Court Judges and lawyers gathered at the home of philanthropist Irwin Beutel, to hear leading US constitutional attorney Nathan Lewin speak about his landmark legal work in fighting terrorism.
The event was part of a weekend long Shabbaton attended by hundreds at Chabad of Westmount.
Lewin, whose talks were peppered with personal anecdotes and humor, shared his experiences about his efforts on behalf of Jewish religious liberties in the US, as well as his struggles to be a Sabbath observant lawyer in 1960’s Washington.
Rabbi Yossi Shanowitz, director of Chabad of Westmount, explained that Lewin’s stature as a leading US constitutional attorney – having argued 27 cases in front of the Supreme Court – inspired attendees in their own personal Jewish observance.
“Nathan Lewin proves to Jewish professionals that it is possible to a proud and observant Jew and still climb the ladder to success. The goal of these lectures is to inspire our people to connect to Torah and Judaism.”
The event is part of the ongoing Chabad of Westmount Irwin Beutel Lecture Series.
