Leiby’s Torah Begun in Australia

Hundreds of Jewish boys, girls, and their parents gathered in Melbourne, as a grand Chabad Youth Tzivos Hashem rally was held, historically beginning a Sefer Torah in memory of murdered Boro Park boy Leiby Kletzky obm.

Billed as a special Sefer Torah, by children, for children, each child will have the opportunity to buy a letter in the Sefer Torah (adults as well), as well as join major campaigns such as a Torah-thon and Mitzvah-thon, where the children will be encouraged to perform good deeds for sponsorships.

The event began with a video of the Rebbe speaking about the Torah. The children said tehillim together and then heard inspiring words from Chabad Youth director, Rabbi Moshe Kahn. After saying the 12 Pesukim with great enthusiasm and excitement, all watched as Sofer Rabbi Eli Gutnick began writing the new Torah. The crowd then split up to do various activities like writing a letter with the Sofer, watching a magician who specialized in ventriloquism, and making edible Sefer Torahs.

When the Torah is completed a grand Siyum Sefer Torah will be held, in which all the children will proudly march in the streets with the Sefer Torah that they made a reality. The Torah is planned for use by the local children’s Minyan.

A big thank you goes to the co-ordinator of this great event, youth director Rabbi Menachem Lipskier, who was the visionary behind this beautiful campaign. “The feedback is fantastic,” he says, “from parents and kids alike. The mitzvos of the children will unite together to form this Sefer Torah- how incredible!”
