Learning Project Holds Dinner

This past Wednesday, in conjunction with Gimmel tammuz, a Gala banquet was held in the Jewish Children’s Museum by a special organization based in Crown Heights, the Torah Learning Project.

Over 200 loyal members and supporters were were treated to a sumptuous buffet and dinner, entertained by the Twins of France, an inspirational talk and video presentation by Rabbi’s Yechiel Kagan director of JEM’s “My encounter” project and Shliach, comedian and author Simcha Weinstien who’s humor and wit had the crowd gasping for more.

The Torah Learning Project presented awards to a few special individuals for their contribution and support that have helped the Torah Learning Project become what it is today.

Started five years ago by Rabbi Yehoshua Werde the Torah Learning Project (TLP) mission is to cater to the spiritual needs of the growing number of young people entering the workforce.

Rabbi Werde noticed that many young professionals were becoming disconnected from Yiddishkeit and the depth and beauty of our rich heritage.
The Torah Learning Project started as a series of short one on one shiurim around many offices in the New York area. Affectionately known as “Power learning”, Rabbi Werde began to develop a strong connection with number of people who became warmer and more open to the Torah and Yiddishkeit of their youth.

Rabbi Werde realized the demand, and soon developed this into group ‘Lunch and Learn’s in the city, and nightly shiurim in Crown Heights. This was supported by regular farbrengens and Shabbos meals, and the Torah Learning Project also began a series of exciting lectures and successful special events to cater to the growing crowd.

Last year The TLP initiated a new center to cater to the needs of post semicha bachurim known as the “Besht Center” whose mission is to create a community of like-minded people looking for a meaningful davening experience, inspirational divre torah, and creative learning opportunities, the Besht center is headed by Rabbi Mendel Kalmenson. The Besht center has become a huge success and is growing fast.

This year The TLP initiated a new project “Chavrusa Sushi”. A short chavrusa study programs with fresh sushi served. The program is every night of the work week, each night catering to a different subgroup of the young working population in multiple locations; the project is headed by three capable individuals Rabbi Benny Schmidt, Mordechai “Ducky” Seewald and Mendy Baitz.

With the help of Hashem the TLP hopes to bring new innovative projects to the community of young working professionals this coming year.
