Three days, three Molotov cocktails. Chops Restaurant, a kosher establishment who was attacked in October 2012 and in January of this year was attacked again early Sunday morning.
Just before one o’clock a Molotov cocktail was thrown into the restaurant. There was no fire and nobody was hurt.
Simcha Suissa was across the street from Chops when it happened. “We asked people what happened and their reply was ‘we saw two masked guys come in, throw in the cocktail and run out. Within seconds all the tablecloths in chops were on fire.’”
This is the third Molotov Cocktail attack in as many days. On Friday, Le Shalom, a kosher restaurant just down the street from Chops was hit, and an apartment on Collins Ave. in Cote St Luc was hit early Saturday morning.
The difference between the Chops attack and previous attacks is that the restaurant was open for business. Approximately 30 customers were inside.
Witnesses say the two men fled the scene by foot.
The twitter page for the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs wrote that the fire bombings are not hate crime related. Several politicians have already weighed in on twitter as well, notably Liberal MP Bob Rae, who wrote “this is terrible news,” and Minister of Immigration Jason Kenney who agreed with Bob Rae and linked a news article about the attack.
most likely its a attack by another jew.. it is very possible that it is a competing store or loanshark issues or the like.

I think people should be careful with kashrut. but bombing a place is too extreme. the ones who did it should be punished severely.

It is NOT necessarily a hate crime at all. There were not messages of hate.
This week several non-Kosher restaurants were firebombed as well. It is very possible that this is some kind of labor/mafia or loanshark issue.
These guys need to be caught and punished severely.
PS How can they say it’s not a hate crime if they didn’t catch the guys?

-do we want them to attach a note to the damage saying “we repeatedly attack jewish establishments because we hate you”?
-by denying that it is hate related, we don’t minimize any damages – someone hits YOU again and again, you have to admit his intention is to hit YOU again and again.
