A matching grant campaign for Kollel Menachem in Crown Heights, an institute for full-time, advanced Torah study by married men, is close to reaching its goal.
An anonymous donor has pledged to match up to $50,000 if donated by the public until Purim, 15 Adar 5774.
The funds will be used to pay the monthly stipend given to the Kollel members for the 1-3 years they spend learning before finding a Shlichus position or a job.
Rabbi Noach Fox, a Crown Heights entrepreneur who is heading the fundraising effort, said they are short $8,250 from the $50,000 target.
He said the current average monthly maintenance cost of the Kollel located on Kingston Avenue and Union Street, including stipends for the student’s salaries, is approximately $30,000.
The Kollel, headed by Rabbi Yosef Heller, was established by the Rebbe in 1962, under the aegis of the Machne Israel Development Fund and the Rebbe’s Secretariat (Mazkirus).
Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, Chairman of Machne Israel, said the Kollel is “serving the Jewish community at large with high caliber rabbinical leaders and Shluchim, trained to lead and advance Jewish life with wisdom, love and courage.”
