The International Kinus Hashluchos, the annual convention of Chabad women emissaries, opened on Wednesday with hundreds of participants making it to New York despite cold weather.
Is is being held as Chabad marks the 26th yartzeit of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson, wife of the Rebbe and an inspirational role model for women and girls worldwide.
“It is an opportune time to experience significant growth and d deepened hiskashrus to the ideals of the Rebbe and Rebbetzin,” said the organizers of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch.
The early comers got to hear about the Rebbetzin’s mostly private life from two of the few individuals who were close to her – Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, the Rebbe’s secratary and Mrs. Esther Sternberg.
The next few days of the convention will be spent in general sessions, workshops and farbrengens to allow for introspection and discussion of personal development and gleaning new ideas and creative solutions for the multifaceted life of a Shlucha.
The first such speech was given Wednesday night at the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights by Rabbi Manis Friedman, a Shliach and dean of the Bais Chana Institute of Jewish Studies in Minnesota.
Later in the evening, the Rebbe’s room in 770 Eastern Parkway as well as the Rebbe and Rebbetzin’s house on President Street was opened for Shlcuhos to daven for their families and communities.
