The Kinus HaMechanchim will honor Torah educators who have been involved in Chinuch for 15 years or more at the 22nd Kinus HaMechanchim, to be held at the Armon Hotel in Stamford Ct. on 27-28 Menachem Av, August 14th and 15th.
It is no secret that Torah educators are underappreciated (except perhaps by their former students) and their tremendous contribution to our collective future goes un-heralded and even un-noticed noticed. To many forget what the Rebbe frequently said, it is they who will be the first to lead their talmidim to greet Moshiach. Too often talented mechanchim leave the field of chinuch for what they think are more lucrative ventures and we are all diminished by their exodus. This is unfortunately a problem not limited to yeshivas and day schools but the secular education world is facing the same dilemma.
Of course, increasing salaries would be an incentive for mechanchim to continue their chinuch work but it’s not just about money. Historically, in the hierarchy of importance in Chassidic communities, a melamed, a Torah educator, was considered second only to the rav. Every community leader understood that the future of his community and on a broader scale, Yiddishkeit itself was dependent on creative, successful melamdim. For all the changes that represent our world, this still hold true. We must be more appreciative and supportive of our melamdim.
The Kinus HaMechanchim, a project of the Merkos Chinuch Office, will acknowledge educators who have chosen to make chinuch their shlichus mission and life’s work and thank veteran melamdim who have given 15 of their best years to chinuch.
