Chabad House Johannesburg directed by Rabbis David Masinter and Michael Katz provides children in Gauteng with an unbelievable month of camp opportunities.
The Gan Yisrael camps were run yet again by the camp directors, Rabbi Pini and Rochie Pink. This year the camp broke all previous records in terms of attendance with over 550 children attending the two week day camp. The camp has grown into a place where children love to come and parents continue to praise. The warmth and care that every child receives keeps them coming back time and time again.
The camp is proud to have children from every Jewish school in Johannesburg from the most secular to most religious as well as children who attend non Jewish schools. “It was a sight to see the children playing with such Ahavas Yisroel, learning together, and enjoying the friendship and camaraderie that only Camp Gan Yisrael offers,” said Janice Waxs whose son attended the day camp.
From the very start of the day they were guided by the talented and creative staff. The boys division was led by Menachem Biston, Michoel Benjamin, Menachem Geisinsky and Avremi Chein. The girls and kiddie camps were run by Rivka Goldin, Chava Yaffe, Bracha Morosow and Chany Haller. The staff organized an array of amazing activities and games, keeping the children on their toes, keeping them excited throughout the day, while at the same time imbuing them with a strong sense of Jewish pride and love for Torah.
The excitement continued with an overnight camp in Uvongo KZN which is home to the Gan Yisrael’s twenty three acre camp site. Over 50 lucky teens joined and loved every minute of it. The camp gave them a well-balanced schedule of fun trips, including speed-boating and surfing, as well as thought provoking workshops and shiurim with resident Rabbi Reuven Finkelstein.
As the school year in South Africa begins, the children now have the energy to take what they’ve learned in camp and live each day to its fullest, all the while looking forward to another fun camp in Gan Yisrael.
