Dovi Minkowicz, a 32 year old father of 5 from Crown Heights, loves all kinds of music, especially cantorial – chazanut.
That wasn’t always the case, he told COLlive.
“I vividly remember, as a child, making fun of my uncle for listening to Chazanut. I used to torment him that he was listening to noise that just didn`t make any sense!”
Now he says, Chazanut is his favorite form of music, especially since having grown up in Antwerp, Belgium, frequenting the Shul where Chazan Benjamin Muller davened. “He truly was my first inspiration towards the music that I now love,” he says.
Minkowicz, who began singing as soon as he could speak, is passionate about all genres of Jewish music, from Avraham Fried to Mordechai Ben David and everything in between.
“Both my parents are from musical families,” he says.
“Music is embedded in my DNA, there’s no separating me from it. It uplifts me when I’m down and brings me down a notch when I’m a little too much on a high,” he says.
Minkowicz hopes The Jewish Star will open new opportunities for his musical aspirations. “Providing I get positive feedback from the professionals, I’d like to look into the cantorial art in the future.”

You obviously didn`t sign your entire last name for a reason. so i assume you wanna keep it that way. just 1 answer on your part will solve the mystery of F. Were we in Joburg together?
To answer # 51:
If you read the mini article carefully, you`ll see that i stated the following, and i quote: “Both my parents are from musical families”. NEVER did I mention Chazonish. My grandfather Yisroel Minkowicz was a hartzige Baal Tefiloh. that my dad`s side. From my mother`s side, a real davener, was my great grandfather Shloime Landau who was recognized in the whole of Europe as a GREAT Davener. He had a Shtele in Milan for many years. He was a CHAZZAN and a ben achar ben from the Noide Beyehude!

One of a kind! Whens your CD coming out?
As an avid fan of Jewish music dating back to the days of 78’s and LP’s (mid sixties ), Dovi definitely stands out. I have heard him sing songs of a full range of musical repertoire, and he is a master of each category. His strength and mastery of musical nuances are exemplary. I wish him hatzlacha in reaching the levels of recognition that he so well deserves. SD
You go all the way!!!

2 years ago, or was it 3? I can`t remember. Anyhow I`m pretty certain this individual davened for the umed in evergreen estates. I was there as a guest and when he started yossele`s hineni before mussaf a started weeping as he reminded me of my dad davening for the umed some 20 years ago. Very hartzig.
I think he davens for the umud
