Jewish cop, Special Constabulary Inspector Moshe Rothstein, used his many years’ experience involved in Jewish outreach to bring the lights of Chanukah to the Greater Manchester Police Force Headquarters in Manchester, UK.
Due to Inspector Rothstein’s position in the police force, and experience as a Chabad chassid in community work and outreach, he was able to unite various factions of the Manchester emergency services, for a moving and inspirational ceremony. Bringing together delegations from the Fire Services, Hatzolah EMS, CST Community Security Trust and of course the host the highest ranking police officer, the Chief constable of Greater Manchester Police. Inspector Rothstein made sure to unite all during this holiday of increased light.
Addressing the large crowd, Moshe emphasised how the emergency services light up and deal with the hearts of people, who at sometimes, are at their lowest and darkest time of their lives much like the light of the menorah lights up the dark nights. Moshe then invited the Honourable Chief Constable Mr Ian Hopkins to address the crowd. The Chief constable expressed how the lights of the Menorah are healing for all people, as they give a moment to reflect and think about what is most important in life.
The Bury and Whitefield Jewish School choir then entertained with a beautiful rendition of some Chanukah favourites, before Rabbi Walker addressed the crowd, and expressed thanks to the Emergency Services for all they do for the Jewish Community.
Rabbi Peretz Chein of Cheadle closed the ceremony by giving thanks to Inspector Rothstein for all his hard work both within the police and the community, and for spreading the light and beauty of Judaism in all his work.
