Rabbi Elazar Abuchatzeira, a Mekubal in Israel known as the Baba Elazar, was stabbed to death on Tammuz 26, 5771.
A grandson of the Baba Sali, he was in his 70s.
A man named Asher Dahan, from the city of Elad, entered the Baba Elazar’s office in Beer Sheva, supposedly asking for a blessing and pulled out a knife instead.
Police have not yet said if this case was connected to a previous attemped murder in November 2009 when a local resident tried doing the same thing.
Thousands used to come to the Baba Elazar for blessings and counsel. He was known to be camera-shy and being careful at what he allowed himself to see.
One of his uncles is Rabbi Yashar Edrey, who is married to the Baba Sali’s youngest daughter and directs Chabad in Netivot.
