Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz, who is currently on a diplomatic visit to the US, visited the holy resting place of the Rebbe on Friday, as we marked the 30th Gimmel Tammuz earlier this week.
The minister, who has close friendly ties with the Rebbe’s chassidim and Shluchim, was accompanied by businessman and philanthropist R’ Yossi Michaelashvili from Crown Heights. The visit was arranged with the help of Rabbi Mendy Carlebach, Chaplain of the Port Authority, and Mrs. Margalit Chudaitov.
R’ Michaelashvili arranged for Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Greenberg, the Head Shliach of Alaska, to accompany the minister and prepare him for writing the pan – note requesting blessings on behalf of all the Jewish people of Israel.
Rabbi Greenberg presented the minister with the new book “To Make Peace” in English, encapsulating the Rebbe’s approach that the only way to enduring peace and true harmony is by standing firm against all pressures!
The minister received a detailed briefing from Rabbi Greenberg about the Rebbe’s approach to the completeness of the Land. The minister responded that indeed, had they listened to the Rebbe’s voice, they would not have reached the tragic situation of October 7. The minister, accompanied by his wife Ronit, wrote a pan to the Rebbe with great trepidation and then recited the Rebbe’s Kapitel before placing the pan at the Ohel.
