Isaac Zellermaier, a long-time store owner in Crown Heights who was active in community affairs, passed away Friday, 12 Adar 5770.
He was 63.
While a resident of Boro Park, Zellermaier was a familiar face on Kingston Avenue as the owner of International Candy and Chocolate, which kids simply called Heshy’s – after his brother, an owner as well.
The store was sold a while ago and Zellermaier went on to own some real estate in the area, a friend of his told COLlive.com.
He was an active member of the Crown Heights Hatzalah in the early years, a volunteer emergency medical service.
At one point he served as a liaison between the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council and the Brooklyn 71st Precinct Police.
In recent years, Zellermaier was a coordinator for the local Shomrim, a volunteer Jewish civilian patrol. He was violently attacked during a burglary, but survived and was left with a heavy limp which was a constant symbol of his service.
He was a mechutan with Dr. Yitzchak Kufper, one of the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s doctors.
Zellermaier is survived by his wife Devora and children Shlomo and Yehuda, both residents of Boro Park.
The funeral will take place Sunday and will leave Shomrei Hadas at 11:30 am, and pass by 770 Eastern Parkway at 12:15 pm.
Boruch Dayan Haemes.

What can I say. I agree with the comment by Zev Osdoba. This is a very big loss. He was a true yiddishe mentch and he will be missed terribly. I know he was always wonderful to my children when they were young. He would always give them a lolly or a candy and as they grew, he would always ask how they were doing. He cared about everybody. My heart goes out to his wife and children. May they and all of klal yisroel know only of simchas. Moshiach now.
Isaac was a tremendous Baal Chessed, available 24 hours a day, for anyone. He gave his full heart in everything which he did, and never said no. Isaac was always the Rishon Shberishonim, to be available, in helping any Type of Yid, with any kind of problem, at anytime, at any place. Isaac literally covered all the Hatzaloh day call’s, single handidly, by himself, for years. He dedication & devotion to all Yidden knew no bounds. Long after everyone was gone, Isaac always remained in making sure that all problems were resolved, to his satisfaction, and that no Yid would… Read more »

I remember Isaac talking to a group of people in internal fight in Crown Height L”A and Isaac saying:” stop now because someone is going to get hurt” that is a neshomo!!!
I remember Isaac from when I was a little kid. He always had a lolly and a warm place for us to stand when we would wait for the school bus in the morning. Years later, married and all he would still stop me to ask about myself and my family.
An emeser mentch always out to help others. May he be a gutte better for all of us and beg Hashem to send Mashiach.

Issac was a nice guy who helped ppl all the time, its a sad day for his family, and a shock.
the limp issac had was nothing to do with the slash he received when he was attacked by a black thug in front of his store, about 13 years ago he was limping long before that, i know that for at least 30 years.
Moshiach Now!
Isaac was a wonderful human being. He will be missed.
