Police and prosecutors say Deandre Charles is a cold-blooded killer who shot Rabbi Joseph Raksin after trying to rob him and getting away with nothing. But during two interrogations with police that were released through court discovery, Charles is heard maintaining his innocence in multiple interviews with detectives.
In late May of 2015, Miami-Dade Detectives sat down with Charles. They suspected him of murdering Raksin during a botched robbery in Northeast Miami nearly a year before. Charles was only 14 at the time. Investigators confronted the teen with testimony from an eyewitness.
“How would you explain that?” a detective asks him.
“I don’t know. I was not there. I would explain it like – I was not there. I don’t know what the he– he’s talking about. I don’t have no clue what he’s talking about,” Charles responds.
Detectives also told Charles that they have physical evidence linking him to the crime.
“There’s something on that scene that we recovered with your partial DNA on it.”
“Lies,” Charles snapped back.
“I’m not lying to you,” the detective followed up.
I hope they’re not making this up just to call this a closed case. I would hope for concrete evidence before I’d feel sure about this.So far I haven’t heard or seen any.
The phrasing “his DNA could not be excluded” (from DNA found on Rabbi Raksin’s sleeve) is very strange, that is far from saying “his DNA was found” or “his DNA matched”. As upset as I was about Rabbi Raksin’s murder and as much as I want the killer to be punished, if all they can say is “his DNA could not be excluded”, I don’t think that’s enough to convict.
The family want answers. They want the 1 who did it to be out away. How can one take that oain away. Its not the first time the police have put away innocent people. Seems to me they have a weak case however if they can prove that’s he’s the man lets hooe this will give the family some peace of mind
the interrogator is way too soft
To number 15: tell us which 15 yr old do you know that still wipes his nose with his hand and not a tissue 15 yr olds dont do that little kids have in pre school do
Send him to North Korea. Kim Don knows how to treat people he doesn’t like.
Beleive me, this murderer he will not like.
I thought police has drug resources to make person say true.
I was once on a jury for a breaking and entering. Everything is very clearly laid out and explained. You don’t need to be an expert in ANYTHING to be a juror. They only choose, or try to choose, non biased jurors. If he is guilty and they have more compelling evidence they aren’t going to lay it all out for a country to decide.
withg his defense attny
To all of you who think touching his nose is a sign of guilt…then every bochur is guilty….HE’S FIFTEEN!!! Kid’s nose’s run, they wipe their nose with their hands….what kid doesn’t do that?! You did when you were 15. He might very well be guilty but not because of hand gestures or wiping his nose. He’s a child alone (without lawyer or parent representation) in a room with a man with a gun and you expect him to be calm? If he is guilty, then I hope he is found guilty, but in this country let’s remember we’re all innocent… Read more »
Don’t most humans have mostly the same DNA? What part did the investigators find? I hope the jury got good grades in genetics to make sense of this evidence. Hopefully prosecution has more substantial evidence.
With no regrets whatsoever. What a animal
Eye for an Eye . Evil at its best
if i was on a jury, i don’t think i’d convict him based on partial dna on something at the crime scene, and touching his nose. i’d certainly want teh perpetrator caught and punished, but i also wouldn’t want the wrong person accused and convicted. not good for the wrongly accused, not good that the real perpetrator isn’t held accountable, and unjust for the victim and his family.
but col and the internte is not a court, so we let the only justice system we have take its due course and hope.
Opening few seconds – as soon as he said he wasn’t there, he touches his nose and speaks with excessive hand motions…I don’t profess to be a body language expert however those two cues are widely known.
Touching his nose is a giveaway for his not being honest….
with all due respect, it seems like the prosecution has weak evidence and a weak case here… I don’t think he’s their man…
Let him burn in hell!
