InstaHate: Deliveryman Filmed Spitting at Jewish Home

An Orthodox Jewish resident of Crown Heights was the victim of what appears to be an antisemitic incident during the week when Jews around the world rejoice on the holiday of Sukkos.

Sam Stern, a longtime resident of Crown Heights, discovered that his front door, which displays a large Mezuzah, had been spit on, after receiving a delivery from the Instacart home delivery service.

Surveillance footage from the home’s security system shows the Instacart employee who goes by the user name ‘Akramjon,’ and is listed as a ‘Diamond Shopper’ with 87 recent 5-star ratings, spitting at the door when he notices the Mezuzah after delivering the items.

Stern reported the incident to Instacart, which has replied that they have “opened an investigation.” Stern has contacted the police about filing possible hate crime charges, he said.

“This was extremely upsetting and painful to myself and my family knowing this could happen today in America,” Stern told COLlive.com. “We are dealing with Instacart to make sure he gets fired and are speaking to the NYPD to see if a hate crime report can be filed as well.”
