Toronto’s Yeshiva Gedolah and Mesivta were host to a grand Siyum Harambam Wednesday night.
Over 300 people were uplifted by the speakers and inspired by the subsequent farbrengen, both featuring Head Shliach Rabbi Moshe Feller of Minnesota.
The program began with the Rebbe’s Kapitel, which was led by Hatomim Mendel Myhill of the Yeshiva Gedolah.
This was followed by a sicha of the Rebbe on Rambam, said over by Hatomim Menachem Wolf of the Mesivta.
The Siyum on Sefer Yad Hachazokah was then made by Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchak Biksnshefner, Rov of Kahal Adas Yere’im, who also explained the significance of studying the Sifrei HaRambam.
The next cycle of Rambam study was then begun by Rabbi Chaim Hildesheim, Shliach to Thornhill Woods, Ontario. Rabbi Hildesheim also gave over some words of chizuk, as well as a few personal experiences with the Rebbe.
He was followed by guest speaker Rabbi Moshe Feller who spoke about the Rebbe’s deep interest and involvement in Siyumim on Rambam, as well as some insights into the history of the takana of learning Rambam daily.
Attending were many members of the Toronto Jewish community, as well as various rabbonim and roshei yeshivos including the Bobover Rav of Toronto, Rabbi Yehoshua Fuhrer.
Those attending were asked to take a hachlata to strengthen their studying of Ramabam. Offered as incentives for this were a free booklet containing the next few days’ shiurim of Chitas and Rambam as well as entry into a raffle for a subscription to Dvar Malchus or Chayenu.
The event was followed by a farbrengen with Rabbi Feller, during which he spoke about the importance of using one’s every spare moment in learning Torah. He also shared some personal experiences from his many years as a Shliach of the Rebbe.
The event was organized by Mendel Leiberow and the Talmidim Shluchim and was sponsored by Dr. Chaim Goldberg, l’zecher nishmas his brother, Yechezkel Isser ben Yaakov Moshe HY”D who was murdered by a suicide bomber on 6 Shevat 5764.

nice to see you david keep up the magnetism
We need a special blog for all former Toronto Zal bochurim to share their great memories and the positive impact Toronto made on their life. I won’t get into the debate of which is the “best” yeshiva but I will say that Toronto certainly made ME the best I could be. Many of us are married and some on shlichus busy with our families and lives but I wish there would be a reunion, a shabbos for us former talmidim who are married. A shabbos of chizzuk, achdus and ain mishpocha.
The weather was the same as Siberia, there were misnagdim in the neigborhood and there were true chassidim who were by the Freirdiker Rebbe. The gashmiyus was ruchniyus and the ruchniyus was real. In Toronto I lost the ability to really enjoy gashmiyus without feeling terrible about it. I also can’t daven quickly any more. And I can’t fall asleep without thinking of the Rebbe.
The best Rosh yeshivah EVER

After mesivta my parents sent me to Zal in Toronto. That was when I started learning and davening seriously. Whatever chassidishkeit I have, I have from Toronto. After all the years, the bochurim may look different but the place still looks the same. My chavrusa used to say that the possuk “serve Hashem on this montain” means Stor Mount ( the street that the Yeshiva is on)!
