In response to the shortage of available accommodations in the Crown Heights neighborhood, a new initiative is set to expand our neighborhood’s capacity for welcoming guests during the month of Tishrei to unprecedented levels.
A group of community activists, in collaboration with the Vaad Hakohol and Crown Heights Rabbonim, are spearheading the development of a state-of-the-art central lodging complex. The huge tent, located on Carroll Street and Troy Avenue, is designed to accommodate approximately 600 guests initially, with potential for future expansion.
The facility is being built with the cooperation of various community organizations, and is available to any bochurim who would like to sign up through their Yeshivas. Meals will be organized and hosted by R’ Moshe Rubashkin, organizers note.
“This initiative stems from our community’s steadfast commitment to continually improve the experience of the thousands of visitors who grace our neighborhood each year during Tishrei,” organizers said. “The new complex will allow our neighborhood to extend our hospitality to even more guests, fulfilling the Rebbe’s vision of enabling every Chassid to visit and stay in close proximity during these holy days.”
The facility will feature advanced systems for guest comfort and safety, including air conditioning, security measures, and a professional cleaning team operating around the clock, organizers said.
The establishment of this complex is expected to bring numerous benefits to our entire neighborhood. It will alleviate pressure on private residences, help streamline the hosting process, and enable more families to participate in the mitzvah of hospitality in additional ways, such as inviting guests for holiday meals.

Letter from the Crown Heights Beis Din:
To all the residents of the neighborhood and to all those residing in your homes,
In recent weeks, we have had the merit to see a significant increase in the number of those visiting Crown Heights for the month of Tishrei.
With this great blessing, also comes many requests for overnight accommodations, which have surged in an unprecedented manner, making it exceedingly difficult to find accommodations for sleeping. Moreover, the need to prepare for the upcoming holidays has become increasingly pressing, especially as many are still struggling to be able to visit Bais Chayenu.
In light of this situation, a group of businessmen who felt this issue deeply, after consulting with those involved, have decided to present a concrete solution. The proposal focuses on creating a place for a large number of lodging spots close to 770. This lot is intended to enlarge in a significant number the availability of sleeping accommodations and to give a solution in a comfortable condition for the guests, and through that create a tangible solution for thousands of guests. This will enable the guests to focus on the main issue – learning Torah, prayer, and avodas Hashem, without worrying about material needs.
We invite all those willing to open their homes and allow guests to stay overnight during this important time to join this sacred mission. We particularly call upon the residents of the neighborhood who can host. By doing so, you will participate in a tremendous mitzvah that will bring great merit to you and your families, in addition to fulfilling the desire of our Rabbi to increase the accommodation of guests during the High Holidays.
We call upon each individual to extend their hand in every possible way to help this critical cause, knowing that “He who has mercy on others will be shown mercy by Heaven.”
It is our sincere hope and prayer that your participation in this sacred mission of hosting guests will stand in your favor, and in the merit of this good deed, may you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, with abundant blessings in both material and spiritual matters, along with the complete redemption by our righteous Messiah, soon in our days.
With a blessing to be written and sealed for a good and sweet year,

it’s a good thing to hire security there too
Armed security
It’s in the article..
Great solution. Kol Hakavod
Will there be showers?
Probably the bochurim will use the showers in the mikvos.
mikvah and porta potties. no showers.
Shouldn’t be a problem, Bezras Hashem!
The bochurim will use the showers in the mikvah
Don’t bochurim shower when they go to the mikvah?
How about Bochrim going to the mikvah daily.
This is dangerous and unlawful.
Do you have a permit?
Yes it’s done all legally with permits from the police and the fire department
First off yes there is a permit so it isn’t unlawful.
Second why be negative? There is people who sew there was a problem and are trying to fix it.
They received all the required permits from
The city.
Honest question, but why preempt it with the suggestion that it’s unlawful and dangerous?
Why would you judge to assume that they would do it unlawfully?
New York City is the king of migrant tents. There’s plenty of ways to do this legally
this sounds like a neighbor to where the tent is being built. typical NIMBY
You know all about the permits & ordnances & what is lawful. Do YOU have a permit?
Good idea. Kuddos to whoever thought of it and acted upon it.
There should be as many thank you comments here on COL as the comments on the opeds. This is incredible work and I’m sure this costs a fortune. Thanks for making it happen.
What a tremendous, and forward-thinking solution to a major challenge for many who come to visit the Rebbe for Tishrei. Much Hatzlacha in all your future endeavors!
What’s with running water and proper toilets?
They do need to be able to wash their hands with soap and water after using the restroom.
I am very happy that the visiting bochurim will have accomodations. Will there be enough toilets installed? I hope sanitation will be prioritized – 600 people will produce lots of trash.
But
I think ull need security in the area….
Hatzlacha with this project
Amazing & wonderful!
Kol hakavod!! Much hatzlacha!
They should make every bochur send a picture of their passport and a deposit.
This is a massive vort.
What a mess that will be
As a bochur I was zoche to be by the Rebbe for Tishrei for around 8 years
I was fortunate to be put up by a crown heights family only a few houses away from 770 and will always be grateful to them for their incredible hachnosas or him
Whoever has organized and involved with this initiative may you be showered with open and revealed brochos for you and your families
כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה
Wow that’s huge
yes, i am confident that it is lawful and that there is appropriate permitting. nobody just pops up a tent of this size otherwise. i also remind the legal owners of the site to obtain appropriate insurance and be named co-insured on any policy that the vaad gets.
Amazingly nice!
Where is this place?
Was this coordinated with the immediate neighbors as well as the girls school across the street?
This will undoubtedly have the most affect on those people the most.
Agree….
I was speaking to some neighbors and they were not very excited to say the least. Good for the bochurim though
This is the first I’m hearing about this! I have many concerns about this and I wish there was some sort of community meeting with residents from a few block radius (and the parents of the girls school).
Those neighbors have it too. Don’t park in their driveways.
What does coordinating look like to you?
why is this necessary shouldn’t the resident’s of crown heights be hosting?
isn’t that their whole shlichus?why would we take away their only zechus?!
Crown heightsers have private lives just like anyone else. The people don’t exist just to be hosts. Not everyone want to have wild teenagers live in their house for a month so that they can be made to feel like a stranger in their own home.
Crown heightsers have many zechusim, they don’t need your approval to for what their shlichus is.
Imagine the zechus our children would have if the locals only supported the local schools and not the many other zechusim given to us by the shluchim
Alot of familys don’t have enough apace the way it is with kids sleeping on couches. All there sons who are away at yeshiva will also come home for yom tov leaving even less space
Halevai we would be able to host all of the guests that come. It’s simply not physically possible! We do what we can and BH there are out of the box thinkers who help so many more people be able to come to the Rebbe for Tishrei. Yasher koach to the organizers- And hatzlacha rabba on figuring out all of the logistics!
Will we be this happy when the property owner leases his land for a homeless shelter or illegal immigrant tent? What is being done to ensure that doesn’t happen?
I hope this will include an area for women too! It can be very hard for single women to find housing in CH year round- please at least treat the guests well this Tishrei.
By getting all these Bochurim places it will free up many more of the private accommodations. Those will now be able used to provide the women with much more dignified and comfortable accommodations (than a massive tent would provide)!
These people need someone to ensure they behave in a respectable manner.
It was a pleasure being part of one of the only Jewish companies in New York that have the capabilities to handle such a job
This is great!
After Tishrei, I hope developers get together and build some apartments/condos there that the community desperately needs.
with hours for men, women, adults/youth…would be amazing
This is very much needed in our community! It will certainly he
lp many.
Thank you!
are there older bachurim or staff to supervise and make sure all goes smoothly and safely? This is a big undertaking. Its a block with families. Sounds like it needs alot of input and supervision etc.
