It is far from a secret that the Rebbe invested much time and energy into the educational institutions in Crown Heights. To the Rebbe, Crown Heights is not just a geographical location but a spiritual center, where the education we give our children serves as a beacon of inspiration for Jews around the world.
Much more of a secret, however, is the impact of one vibrant educational institution, which spans two locations and three divisions – Gan Academy of Crown Heights.
All three divisions – Preschool, Boys Yeshiva, and Girls Elementary – share a common educational approach rooted in the Torah’s statement “כי האדם עץ השדה” – “Man is like a tree of the field.” At Gan Academy, each child is viewed as a budding sapling in Hashem’s garden, imbued with endless potential to blossom and bear fruit. The school’s mission is to lovingly cultivate each child’s social, emotional, academic, and spiritual qualities, helping them spread their branches and realize their full tree of potential.
Just as a tiny seed must be planted and nurtured in the right environment to develop into a mature, fruit-bearing tree, so too every detail in Gan Academy’s garden of education is designed to cultivate a fertile landscape for learning and growth.
In this vein, the three divisions share a unique culture of kindness that has become the hallmark of the Gan Academy institution. This culture begins with the staff, whose caring example influences the character and interactions of their students.
When a new student joins Gan Academy, it is heartwarming to observe the way they are instantly included by their classmates, making them feel right at home. This family-like atmosphere fosters a sense of security and belonging among the students, helping to prevent incidents of bullying and exclusionary behavior. At the same time, Gan Academy’s proactive approach, ensures that any rare instances of bullying are quickly addressed.
In addition to using creative and high quality curricula, Gan Academy’s warm and dedicated teachers deeply invest in each child, providing them with personal attention and guidance.
