A Landlord
September 12, 2017 9:53 am

Not all landlords are evil. Many are regular Jews like their tenants just trying to make a living. The economic pressures are often great, and while many landlords would love to offer lower prices etc., they also cannot allow themselves to go broke.

In an ideal world suggestions like no. 4 above, would be listened to and acted upon. Hopefully they will listen, but unfortunately I have very little confidence of that happening. Maybe a more realistic approach would be to start an out of town, affordable Chabad community like so many other groups have already done years ago. Would there be any way that all of Satmar could now squeeze back into Williamsburgh. Interestingly, we have the same problem here in Australia and we are currently working on establishing a whole new Yiddisher community, an hour out of Melbourne, for exactly the… Read more »

Don’t want us here, then please help us to relocate!!!!! Let’s arrange it through the Community Council. I would LOVE to move!!!! But moving costs money. You want to replace Yeshiva families with Yuppies? Fine, then please help us with relocation expenses.

priced out
February 9, 2017 2:14 pm

Families living in larger apartments, and houses are being priced out of this community due to landlords raising rents to keep up with ‘market rates’. Debt is rising, and the options are few and far between for finding a suitable apartment to rent for a large family. It would be nice if more of the Landlords in our community recognized that large families living on fixed incomes with many tuition and other living expenses can not afford to pay hefty rent increases every year or two. Consideration must be given, and landlords should realize they are taking away lifeblood from… Read more »

make committee
February 9, 2017 11:27 am

Start a committee of families and rabbonim who want to lobby for reasonable housing prices. Pressure home owners and apt owners to become mentchen and to consider the financial situation of people today and the high expense of living. With enough publicity and pressure things could change, Hashem yaazor. Surely the Rebbe will help but something must be done b’teva.

The reason

BH

Many of the people who are responsible for the problem you are having in CH, and the same that we have in Williamsburg, is caused by those individuals and families that throw a couple of rubels around, this way no one would say anything, the end looks real bad, the kids in our community could end up marrying into these yuppie families, the first ones to fall are going to be the children of the selfish people who are stuffing their pockets on the expense of under yungerlait.

A tenant for over 22 years

Watching our Rebbe and hearing his words made me cry. How come no one is speaking up for the people who are openly being driven out of their homes because of the new impossible rents? My landlords are fine Chasidishe people and this is happening to me. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to solve this delima?
