Bais Rivkah High school had a packed schedule to mark 19 Kislev, where they combined learning Chasidus with talent and creativity.
In the morning, a talk by Rabbi Manis Friedman set the tone for the day, explaining the idea that Tanya is practical and relevant to every one of us.
The entire school then divided into groups for the following experiences:
An interactive video, produced by the students of 12th grade, was shown, about bringing hayom yom’s lessons into daily life.
Then the girls viewed a comprehensive array of exhibits, fashioned by the students, on Jewish history, entitled, “Jewish History Illuminated.”
The goal was to address some controversial perspectives on stories from Tanach and illustrate the wisdom of the Chassidic perspective on them.
This was accomplished by the impressive three-dimensional structures, costumed tour guides, and brilliant lights; the work behind it all was evident in the extensive detail.
Finally, the students took part in educational Tanya workshops on shar yichud vihaemunah given by the 12th grade students.
The workshops were given in interactive settings, such as: A busy and bustling airport with luggage carts, and the plane itself being loaded with luggage and passengers.
The concept is just like an airplane needs fuel; otherwise it can’t fly, so too we human beings, and all other creations, constantly need G-dly energy in order for us to exist. But how did G-d create us? And how come God needs to constantly give us energy? Why can’t the world run on autopilot?
Another workshop explained, G-d created the world through speech, the Asara Maimoros. With these letters the entire world came into existence. Yet the Asara Maimoros don’t include everything that was created, for example stone. If God is giving the world and creations chayus, why don’t we see that life force and energy that cause things to be?
These concepts and more were explored.
The girls were then treated to a festive Seudah with seder nigunim.
The day was wrapped up with a talk by Rabbi Sholom Paltiel, Shliach in Port Washington, NY.
Inspired by the day, over 200 girls headed out to do Mivtzoim, to share the wealth of chassidus with others.
The community is invited to view the exhibits on Tuesday, Dec. 4
10 am – 12 pm and 7 pm – 9 pm
Open to the entire community.

These girls are truly talented beyond words. They literally transformed the entire room and thought of every last detail. The scenes literally came to life with fog machines, wind blowers and special effect lighting. Not only was the scenery amazing but the Staff offered up knowledgeable and informative tours, explaining each scene in detail. I’m so proud of my daughter for participating in… Read more »
