Crown Heights residents turned out on Sunday to vote in the first election in 14 years for directors of the Vaad Hakohol.
Candidates in the first election in Crown Heights in over 10 years are Dovid Halon, Meir New, Yankel Goldstein, Yitzie Kamman, Shmuel Rosenstein, Berel Hildeshaim, Zalman Friedman, and Pinchos Woolstone.
CHJCC is the social service and representative arm of the community, while Vaad Hakahal serves as the religious arm, supporting the Beis Din, Kashrus (CHK), and services such as Ask the Rav, Taharas Hamishpacha Hotline, Mishpat Shalom, and more.
The Elections Committee: Shloma Hecht, Mendel Wilhelm (Menachem’s Shul), Yossi Chayo, Naftali Berkowitz, Eli Felberman, and Alexander Weisz are running the election which are taking place at Lubavitch Yeshiva – New Hall until 9 PM.

What a shame that the first election in 14 years did not prioritize the inclusion of the entire community. This failure to extend the vote to women is shamefully wrong and an embarrassment to Crown Heights.
Also older singles. Older singles make up a much bigger part of CH’s demographic than they did 14 years ago (and since the time when the bylaws were established). The fact that marriage makes you more “worthy” and gives you status as a community member is not just hurtful and adding salt to an open wound (lets be honest, we all know its not easy being an older single in any frum community) – but it also makes no sense. Perhaps the new vaad can make some of these changes
This election was a very clean and pleasant election. I hope those who win will ensure that the Vaad Hakohol term is similarly peaceful.

i think that its important that the vaad hakohol take things into their hands,
and get things going in the benefit of the community.
Would be higher turn out if women were allowed to vote.
