By a Bais Rivka student
On the day of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai’s passing, he instructed his students to celebrate the day with Simcha. Bais Rivka took it to heart and spent 24 hours rejoicing. The first gathering took place at night and was packed with unique ways to celebrate.
We entered the parking lot, which was transformed into a beautiful campground, and were greeted by a giant barbecue with delicious food. We went to partake in the multitude of activities. Outside, there was an archery class, as traditionally, through the ages, a bow and arrows became symbols of Lag B’omer.
Inside, there was a live game room where the girls were the game pieces as they slid down actual slides for Chutes and Ladders, and found their way through mazes. Afterwards, we sat down to decorate tambourines, as Miriam Haneviah did with Neshei Yisroel. As niggunim blared from the speakers, we danced with Simcha hoping to great the immediate Geulah. The night was not over, and the best part was yet to come. We sat around a great bonfire telling stories that inspired us all.
We want to thank Mrs. Tiechtel, Sara Blau, The 12th grade, the G.O. and Rabbi Stock for a superb job and making sure it all went smoothly. We greatly appreciate all the technical help given by Tzvi and Gill.
The next day after Davening, we boarded the buses which brought us to a private park in Staten Island. Similarly to the night before, there were opportunities to engage in various activities such as a carnival, blow ups, obstacle courses, or sports. Some chose to sit by a picturesque lake or go for a stroll. We didn’t go hungry as we had a constant supply of popcorn and cotton candy.
This Lag B’omer was not only enjoyable and lots of fun, but inspiring as well. We bonded with our friends and strengthened our Ahavas Yisroel. It is a Lag B’omer we will always remember.
