Students of Oholei Yosef Yitzchok Lubavitch of Crown Heights visited Staten Island Ferry to celebrate the day the Rebbe and the Rebbetzin came to America. Even the youngest class joined the trip.
After escaping Nazi-occupied Paris, and many perilous months in Vichy France, the Rebbe and the Rebbetzin boarded the SS Serpa Pinto in Lisbon, Portugal.
On Monday, Sivan 28 (June 23) at 10:30 A.M., they arrived in New York.
Students loved having this great opportunity to personally experience this event that took place long time ago. For many students, this was a first-time experience on a ferry, and they had an opportunity to connect it to a such important and holy event.
Teachers had opportunity to follow up with classroom discussions about the importance of this day and how it has impacted the Jewish World in America and throughout the globe.
We really enjoyed trip, even the little ones were invigorated by trip as they recited the 12 pesukim

My kids had a wonderful time. It’s nice to get the opportunity to really visualize what is usually reviewed in class as a story. Thank you for the great idea!

I am very glad that we have new schools like this opening upCA in our community. It creates a healthy dynamics in older yeshivos, what I love seeing in OYYL is a very high level in Ruchnius and a very creative way to bring it to our children. Way to go for all schools!
