Is one allowed to exercise before davening, and how about on Shabbos? What is the status of a sofer who forged his certificate? Are fertility treatments allowed to be done on Shabbos? Does a glow bar help for bishul Yisroel? Can a Yid sell abortion pills in his pharmacy? In which scenarios is a shliach required to do birur hayahadus for new families he meets?
These are just a few of the many questions posed to Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov, a moreh tzedek in Crown Heights, by local residents and people from around the world. The questions, along with Rabbi Kasimov’s detailed answers, have now been compiled into a new sefer.
Titled ‘Divrei Tuvia,’ the sefer features a wide range of halachic questions and responsa – shailos uteshuvos – addressed to Rabbi Kasimov, together with his written responses. Some of the responsa were sent directly back to the questioners, while others are based on notes Rabbi Kasimov made before giving verbal answers.
In his introduction, Rabbi Kasimov writes: “I have been granted a tremendous, unearned kindness from Hashem, to serve the community in the holy community of Crown Heights, the neighborhood of the Rebbe. Day and night, I am privileged to answer questions from the community.
”Initially, the questions were mainly on taharas hamishpacha, but I later began receiving questions on many other topics from locals, from other communities, and from the Rebbe’s shluchim.
“Many of these shluchim had unique questions related to their holy work, questions that had not previously been discussed in the classic Halachic texts. These inquiries required me to delve deeply into each topic, examining and clarifying them until I could offer a clear and definitive psak.”
Featuring 70 responsa that span practical issues across all four sections of the Shulchan Aruch, the new sefer promises to be a valuable addition to both homes and libraries. Those new to halachic study will appreciate the clear, practical discussions, seasoned talmidei chachomim will enjoy the in-depth exploration of halachic sources, and shluchim will find guidance on topics uniquely relevant to their mission of spreading Yiddishkeit.
The sefer is graced with approbations from prominent rabbonim from around the globe, including Rabbi Dovid Banon of Montreal, Canada, Rabbi Yosef Yisroel Eisenberger of New Square, Rabbi Shmuel Fuerst of Chicago, Rabbi Yitzchak Shechter of Kiryat Sanz, Eretz Yisroel, and Rabbi Gedalia Oberlander of Kingston, PA.
Divrei Tuvia is available in all Crown Heights seforim stores, and online here.
