Attendees of Mrs. Devorah Scheiner‘s regular simcha events for seniors and special needs recently enjoyed a joyous and uplifting evening in Crown Heights.
In accordance with the Sefirah mourning period, an acapella choir of Choni Teitelbaum, Choni Zucker, Osher Gutnick and Shmuly Goldman sang some Jewish favorites.
Graciously hosted in the home of R’ Shimon A. and Dina Rosenfeld, participants also enjoyed an illusion act by Chaim Gitlitz.
And there was the Rebbe’s mazkir, Rabbi Leibel Groner who mesmerized the crowd of 50 people with stories from the Rebbe and the lessons that can be learned from them.
Mrs. Scheiner’s Yom Tov Fund distributes fresh food — chicken, fish, dairy and more — to hundreds of needy families before each major holiday.
Here is a short essay her granddaughter Basya Furst wrote about her grandmother’s activities:
Every Erev Yom Tov she gives out truckloads of cases of chicken, meat, fish, and other food items to families who are needy.
She arranges private concerts with Jewish superstars for the elderly ,and group home individuals, among them Avrohom Fried, Benny Friedman, Yehuda Green, Gershon Veroba, Lipa Shmeltzer and many others.
She buys shoes and clothing for people in need. She arranges to take poor people shopping for food on a regular basis. She shops and collects money for kallahs who don’t have enough money on their own.
I am lucky and very proud to have such a bubby, who is a giving and caring person, who despite her own disabilities, takes so much time out of her busy life to give so much to those who have so little.
It is people like her who make this world so much nicer, I love her dearly!
