As the academic year drew to a close, the students of Achei Temimim Magen Israel celebrated with a memorable family BBQ in the park. This event was not only a festive gathering but also an opportunity for each class to demonstrate the progress and achievements they made throughout the year in their Torah studies.
The youngest classes kicked off the presentations with a heartwarming display of their Chumash learning. These young students read פסוקים from פרשת וירא they had mastered and performed a charming skit that brought the stories of the Chumash to life.
Next, the 4th and 5th graders took the stage, showcasing their deepening love for Navi. Each student dressed up as a different Shofet (Judge), reflecting the characters they studied. They presented shields with drawings related to the events and stories of these figures, demonstrating their understanding and engagement with the texts. Rabbi Yosef Chayempour, the 4th-grade rebbi, remarked, “This was the best way for our students to remember and reflect on what they learned. The boys were so excited to create shields depicting different aspects of the Shofets’ lifetimes. It was a great way to end off a year of hard work and learning.”
The 6th and 7th graders then presented a more advanced aspect of their learning, delving into the Gemara. They staged a scene directly from the Gemara, showcasing their skills in interpreting and discussing the texts. Following this intellectual display, the students also presented beautiful artwork inspired by their studies. Baruch Abayev, a 6th-grade student, remarked, “I liked being able to draw what the Gemara was saying as we learned the information inside. Our posters took us all year to make and helped us understand what we were learning inside the Gemara.” One piece highlighted how David Hamelech would wake up to play his harp, and sing to Hashem which later became parts of tehillim. Another piece creatively illustrated Rabbi Yossi who davened in a ruin and the conditions under which a ruin is considered significant enough to recite Tefilla.
The event culminated in a vibrant BBQ, where families and friends enjoyed delicious food and celebrated the students’ hard work and accomplishments. This gathering not only highlighted the students’ academic achievements but also fostered a strong sense of community and shared pride in their educational journey.
