Chabad of Georgetown recently hosted an unforgettable Lag BaOmer celebration run by Rabbi Avraham and Shuly Holtzberg, drawing thousands of attendees from across the community. The event, recognized as the Chabad of Georgetown’s largest party of the year, was a spectacular blend of fun, festivity, and heartfelt tradition.
The celebrations were packed with activities for all ages. The program began with a children’s rally ran by Rabbi Shimmy Weinbaum of Tzivos HaShem. Attendees enjoyed horseback riding, bouncing on inflatables, and thrilling mechanical rides. There were also a variety of sports games, providing fun challenges and entertainment for the sporty crowd. Food lovers delighted in an array of classic festival treats, including hotdogs, hamburgers, and cotton candy.
An added element this year were the t-shirts that were distributed to the attendees; designed with the yellow ribbon with the text ‘Bring them home now!” and “Am Yisrael Chai”. Through all the fun and Lag Baomer celebrations, it’s always bittersweet as we never forget the hostages, our brothers and sisters who we are praying to be soon released and join us in our celebrations.
Adding to the excitement, an amazing marching band from Oholei Torah led attendees on a vibrant parade around the neighborhood. The lively music and synchronized steps of the band added an extra layer of joy and energy to the celebration, drawing smiles and cheersfr m participants and onlookers alike.
A highlight of the event was the bonfire, lit in honor of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. The flames illuminated the night, symbolizing unity and the enduring spirit of the community.
The lighting of the bonfire began on a solemn note with a prayer for the safety of soldiers and Israel, as well as a heartfelt prayer for the safe return of hostages. This moment of reflection and solidarity underscored the deeper significance of the celebration.
As the night progressed, the festivities reached a joyous peak with dancing around the bonfire. The vibrant dancing brought everyone together, creating a warm and lively atmosphere that perfectly capped off the event.
The Lag BaOmer party organized by Chabad of Georgetown was not just a festive gathering but a powerful reminder of community strength, unity, and tradition. The overwhelming turnout and the joyous atmosphere made it clear that this event was a resounding success, setting a high standard for future celebrations.
