Students of Kitah Alef of Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch of Montreal recently completed a contest which began on hey Teves and ended on Yud Alef Nissan.
The goal was to give a “gift” to the Rebbe – the learning of 1,000 pesukim in Parshas Bereishis, by heart, along with the translation.
Each evening at home, students studied verses by heart with their translation, and were tested on their knowlege during recess times.
“One had to see the ‘chayus’ and excitement each day during these ‘farhers’,” related their teacher, Rabbi Chaim Berkowitz. “It is just hard to describe. I have been doing this contest with my Kitah Alef class for over twenty years, but this year something really special happened,” he says.
The class actually doubled their goal, and completed over 2,000 pesukim by heart. Seven students were tested on the entire Parshas Bereishis by heart, while others did between 13 and 130 pesukim.
A report with each student’s name and his sum of pesukim was placed at the Ohel on the day of Yud Alef Nissan.
Mazal Tov to all the kinderlach who worked so hard. Yasher Koach to Rabbi Berkowitz and Rabbi Cohen.
Rabbi Berkowitz is a Mechanech who puts all his “koiches into his talmidim” . He instills in them a love for learning Torah. May he be zoche to lead his talmidim to greet the Rebbe MH”M Now !
