Preparations for the Chabad girls Inter-School High School Convention are well underway, with changes made to this annual event.
While usually taking place on Chof Bais Shevat, this year, it will all come together more than two months earlier, on Yud Tes Kislev, organizers notified COLlive.
“Anticipation amongst the girls is building, as this amazing event is right around the corner,” organizers said. “Careful planning has gone into the event to make sure that this convention will be one of inspiration, chayus, and pride in the role of being a Bas Chabad – ready to greet Moshiach!”
The convention is organized by Bais Rivka High School faculty and students with the intention of strengthening the achdus amongst Chabad girls from around the world.
The convention starts Thursday, Yud Ches Kislev, November 21 and runs through Sunday, Chof Aleph Kislev, November 24. It will be four jam-packed days of amazing farbrengens, sought after speakers, presentations from the participating schools, entertainment, and incredible exhibits produced by the Bais Rivkah girls. The event will culminate in a grand banquet Sunday afternoon.
Any Chabad girl who wants to join is welcome. For more information, the convention organizers can be reached at CGHSConvention5774@gmail.com.
While all the complaints from out of towners are certainly valid, allow me to explain from a bais rivka point of view. Bais Rivka has always been the host school for chof bais shevat. that meant kinnus…and production…and convention…it was nuts. girls were sleeping on G.O. room couches for an hour a night, then running home and taking a shower before running back to school to work more. we were exhausting and overworking ourselves and we couldn’t even enjoy a high school convention because we had a bazillion other things on our mind. convention banquet only took place on sunday… Read more »
The best convention head who “doesn’t know what she’s doing” (=
Why wasn’t the Toronto high school informed? Now the girls of the Toronto high school won’t be joining their friwnds ! Why can’t this program begin a year later so that all the high schools will be able to join?
LGHS, LGHS THeres noone like us in the worlddd..
……watch out Bais Rivka/ ch its coming at you!!!!!!;)
Change can be a good thing, when all parties involved agree that it is necessary and agree upon whatever the decision might be. This was obviously thought of too late and is going to upset a lot of girls and schools. BRHS can have their convention November 21st which might be a good idea for them, they are entitled. Later, on Chof Beis Shevat they can have a special Melava Malka for all girls from all over. This will be less stressful for the BRHS girls and accomplish for all parties. It is not right to take away from the… Read more »
months ago the high schools were told about it and with the exception of one high school all voted that the 12th grade should still take place on chof bais Shevat as usual. There isn’t much choice as applications would not be ready for yud tes kislev. as for the other grades it was taken into consideration, and after all the pro’s and cons were weighed it was decided that it is just too much. For the shluchos who were also saving money for years to get chizuk not just excitement, it was too crowded. no room in 770, in… Read more »
I always looked forward to being part of convention, kinus, and seeing everyone, and now I have to choose which one to go to!!!! This is so unfair!!! Plzzz move it back!!!
I think we should boycott this last minute inconsiderate change. As a parent of a 12th grader & a second HS student this is appalling! My “out of towners” look forward to sharing the excitement of a big IN TOWN production…loads of friends from around the world & the experience of being in the “schuna”at a special & busy time. It is pretty apparent that whoever made this decision was not thinking of out of towners time or money. Thanks
why is toronto not going?? 🙁
What about the small town girls who usually joined their mothers to get an infusion of holiness of Chof Bais Shvat and the hustle and bustle of Crown Heights with all the Shluchos there. It’s a time we all look forward to meet our friends of high school age.. but also to see our relatives who are shluchos from all over the world that we rarely get to see. ( I’m noticing a good portion of the comments are relaying that they were not aware of this Change. )
There must have been some miscommunication…but not all out of town high school girls were aware of this. It seems that the Program Directors of the Girls convention should have made a bigger awareness (COL)of the new date for convention much earlier publicly…advertisement-School posters…when were the High Schools notified of the actual change? This is new to us and it does not leave time for planning airline tickets with decent pricing and for others who already made plans to be there Chof Beis Shvat.
As much as everyone complains about the “squishiness” and those “awkward moments” bumping into old friends and teachers….c’mon!! We all know that it’s all part of the fun and deep down inside, we all look forward to it!! PLEASE RECONSIDER!
great idea! its definetly way too squished by 22 Shevat
over the years, living space, places to hold events, and schedules were so overcrowded that the convention had been downsized to only some grades, because the entire high school population could not be accomodated, ba”h along with all the shluchos ba’h, along with all their little girls that attend the tzirei kinus.
this allows the convention to concentrate on a program geared for HS girls, that need that chizuk. true, late notice is not helpful, but in the long run, and over time, this will be a great change for our girls
i agree with number 11!!
I’ve been planning my whole summer around this convention and have been saving for more than a year. would have been nice if there was some notice!!
My daughter has been babysitting and saving her money to come to the 22 Shevat convention for well over a year now, We live in Australia and this is something that she has been looking forward to for a very long time, The Australian summer vacation coincides with 22 Shevat, 19 Kislev is during the final year exams. She is devastated that she cannot participate. Whilst, I am sure there are good reasons for the change, this is something that should have been announced to the public a year ago, not a few weeks before.
Being from out of town, it opens a great opportunity to bond and meet other chabad girls like me.
why squish the shluchos and High school girls the same weekend? it’s ridiculous!! and the heads of seminary come for the interviews they can come 19 kislev instead of 22 shvat!
This was a beautiful tradition of bnos chabad coming in for their mother’s yohrtzeit. The Rebbetzin gave her life for us and our children and now you take this away?!!!!!!!!!!!
What do they gain from all these boring speeches, when girls will lose this beautiful value “going into to NY for the Rebbetzin’s yohrtzeit.
Please reconsider.
Sorry but as an out of town parent we received an email to book tickets TODAY. Entire trip is costing $400. In two month s 12th graders return. Another $300!!! Interview fees for two schools (not just the one you really want to go too). Don’t forget to sign up for dor yesharim. Many parents are complaining amongst themselves but don’t want to ruin it for the girls.
all the out of town schools have chanukah vacation one week later.
so now they want the girls to fly to NY 19 kislev, go back to school, and then go home for a week.
if they are trying to avoid the chof beis shvat crowd, they should do it 24 teves or purim katan.
This idea has been discussed seriously by the high schools for the last 6 years.
The decision was made to change the convention dates for this year MONTHS ago, schools and students from out-of-town have been making arrangements (tickets, sleeping accommodations) for a while.
COLlive was contacted in order to make a news announcement of the change to the broader community.
The details have all been worked out and every out-of-town high school girl could have told you this months ago.
12th grade convention will be chof bais Shevat
re the production:
actually, it will improve the sitch
the convention HS girls don’t usually go to production, the young kinus hashluchos kids go, that will remain.
the difference will be that BR HS girls will be more available to do kinus counselor, and production, without having to lose out on convention.
This sounds like a nice idea, however, I’m surprised that this new change of date for girls convention is being announced so late…and so close to the actual convention weekend. This has not given any out of towners the opportunity for purchasing decent priced Plane tickets and for schools to plan accordingly…especially if the 12th graders will be going in Chof Beis Shvat for interviews. It is not feasible that they go twice, once in November for convention and once in January for Sem interviews. This new change date should have been announced 6 months ago.
won’t that effect BRHS production? Isn’t there an entire production with just convention girls. They will lose out on that, but I guess that was taken into consideration
Brilliant idea….
How does this affect seminary interviews? The girls have to fly in twice? I don’t think so….They will probably choose .
great idea! 22 Shevat is just too full BH, girls should have their own time, not lumped into the kinus
the bochurim have 10 shvat, and now the girls should enjoy
(only glitch will be grade 12, sem interviews, but maybe that will adjust eventually too)
