Mendel and Esthi Yarmush of Crown Heights, parents of Chaya Mushka obm who passed away at the age of 10 months, have introduced a special project in her memory.
The couple have started a project to send birthday packages to the siblings of children who have special needs. Aside for gifts and treats, they will also include in the packages the Rebbe’s birthday instructions, adapted for children.
“The Rebbe introduced the “Birthday Campaign” on 25 Adar 5748, the first birthday of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka after her histalkus,” said Mendel Yarmush. “Today, 21 Shvat, the day before the Rebbetzin’s yohrtzeit, our daughter Mushkie, named after the Rebbetzin, would have celebrated her first birthday.”
Children who have special needs demand a tremendous amount of time, energy, and attention from their parents. This demand automatically diminishes the time, energy, and attention the parents have available for their other children. By default, the siblings do not get as much attention and love as they deserve.
Now, imagine these children coming home one day from school to find a package for them, with their name on it, for their birthday. “You can just see their faces light up and feel their excitement as they open the package and discover what was sent specifically for them,” says Yarmush. “It is a tremendous comfort to know that the lives of these children will be brightened, even for a moment, because of our precious Mushkie.”
Mushkie’s Gift is a joint project with the Friendship Circle of Brooklyn.
Please partner with us to make these children’s birthdays the happy and special day it is meant to be.
The Rebbe wanted living memorials for increasing the goodness in the world. This couple is setting a great example for all of us.
