Two prominent Rabbonim have published a letter calling on the community to support a family going through a severe mental health crisis.
The letter reads:
To the Chabad community worldwide,
Last year, we brought to the attention of the community, a family from Crown Heights that is dealing with a severe mental health crisis, where multiple family members require psychiatric care.
B”h hundreds of donors donated to support this family in their time of need. We thank you tremendously.
However, we must turn to you once more. The mounting psychiatric and therapist expenses have put the family on the brink. The debts and mental health issues combined are overwhelming.
During the nine days, we mourn the Bais Hamikdash’s destruction and beseech Hashem to send the Geulah, we turn to Acheinu Bnai Yisroel for financial support to help save this family.

I’m sorry this family is suffering. I want to add my thoughts as someone who’s engaged with modern mental health care for the better part of 13 years. There are acute issues that should be addressed to mitigate immediate concerns, safety and emotional needs. Then there is long term care and upkeep. This is where it gets tricky. As a society we are conditioned into believing that if we can only throw untold amounts of money at the issue, relief will be at hand. We now know this is not necessarily true. For one thing, old and lengthy forms of… Read more »
What modalities have you found to be useful?
and this isn’t medical advice, but you might want to try removing all trigger foods from your diet, deleting all social media, not using much internet, asking Hashem, and being very meticulous about Torah observance.
There might be someone in the community that can help the family qualify for government assistance, programs, therapies etc.
From my experience anything that is is free has proven to be a waste of time. I would love to be wrong as therapy is costing a fortune.
medicaid,medicare
I will donate now.
I.have had the unfortunate experience.where a family member.saw.a psychiatrist at a well kniwn Jewish agency. The.psychiatrist misdiagnosed the patient andbprescribed the wrong medication. The patiebt had a terrible reaction to the meds and had to be hospitalized. The family was advised to call in a top psychiatrist, who had to be paid tip dollar. He diagnosed the patient and gave her different meducations which realky helps thenperson a lot. Unfortunately she continues to see a psychologist at this mental health center. The patient has to feel comfortable with the therapist and by the time they have built up.a relationship, the therapidlst has… Read more »
This is mamosh pikuch nefesh
I don’t think most of you have any idea how much an appointment with a psychiatrist costs. It’s an exorbitant amount of money. And sometimes it’s pikuach nefesh.
Sorry to tell you this, but Medicaid and medicare do not cover good psychiatrists and psychologists.
You probably don’t have any real experience with it.
